Welcome to Pi Day! Today is the annual celebration of the mathematical constant pi, and while our celebrations could be never ending, we’ve put together a small quiz event to honor the occasion. Come along with us and learn about pi with infinite joy.
What is Pi Day?
As you may know, the constant pi is used to calculate the dimensions of a circle, more specifically the circumference and area, however has become an infamous symbol both within mathematics and pop culture through its unique properties. The constant Pi is irrational, meaning it’s never ending, and we are still on the lookout for new digits of the number as of present. However, the first and most well known digits of pi, 3.14, form the basis of Pi Day, as it’s most notably celebrated on 3/14. Typical celebrations include eating pie, recalling digits of the constant and of course lots of pi puns!
“Probably no symbol in mathematics has evoked as much mystery, romanticism, misconception and human interest as the number pi” - William L. Schaaf
